Hybrid | 2 days per week in Canary Wharf


We're looking for a hands-on Head of Engineering to work with our client a brand new and innovative social media app. Founded 3 years ago they have over 35k users and looking to increase that to a million within the next 2 years and as such need someone to come in and shape their technology strategy while remaining deeply engaged in coding and architecture.

This role combines technical leadership, team growth, and cutting-edge product development, making it ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of leadership and engineering.

What You'll Do

  • Define the roadmap: Own the engineering strategy, lead architecture decisions, and manage both internal teams and outsourced partners.

  • Stay hands-on: Write production-quality code across Node.js, Express, GraphQL, TypeScript, React, and React Native.

  • Deliver front-end excellence: Build fast, responsive web apps using Vite, React Query, Context API, and CSS frameworks.

  • Integrate emerging tech: Incorporate AI/ML APIs, LLM-driven features, and automation tooling into our products.

  • Design for scale: Lead on API design, performance optimisation, and secure, cloud-ready architectures.

  • Build the team: Recruit, mentor, and grow high-performing engineers while raising the quality bar.

  • Collaborate: Translate product goals into clear technical execution through strong communication and cross-team alignment.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with orchestration frameworks (LangChain, LangGraph) and multi-agent workflows

  • Knowledge of vector databases, RAG pipelines, and lightweight model hosting

  • Ability to design data pipelines and feedback loops for improving AI-driven features

  • Awareness of emerging AI areas such as multimodal, edge AI, or AI in DevOps/observability
