AWS Architect - London (Hybrid, 1-2 days onsite) - Inside IR35 rate negotiable
Role Summary
We are seeking two experienced AWS Architects to support a large-scale programme of work building and modernising data-driven platforms in the financial services sector.
The roles are focused on hands-on architecture, design, and delivery of cloud-native and data-intensive systems in AWS. One role requires a deep AWS infrastructure/cloud architecture background, and the other combines AWS expertise with strong data architecture experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and delivery of AWS-native architectures, ensuring scalability, performance, and security
- Define and implement cloud infrastructure patterns including compute, storage, networking, and IAM
- Architect data solutions within AWS (Aurora PostgreSQL, Redshift, Kinesis, Kafka, Spark) to handle market/trading data at scale
- Partner with engineering teams to translate business requirements into technical architectures
- Ensure cloud governance, compliance, and security standards are embedded into designs
- Guide DevOps practices, automation pipelines, and containerised workloads (Docker/Kubernetes/EKS)
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including developers, product managers, and data engineers, to align solutions with the wider programme roadmap
- Act as a technical authority for AWS adoption, providing recommendations on service usage and optimisation
Skills & Experience Required
- Proven background as an AWS Architect in enterprise or financial services environments
- AWS certifications
- Strong expertise in core AWS services (EC2, S3, RDS/Aurora PostgreSQL, VPC, IAM, CloudFormation/Terraform)
- Experience designing and delivering cloud-native infrastructures including compute, storage, networking, and IAM
- Hands-on knowledge of data platforms in AWS: data lakes, Aurora PostgreSQL, Redshift, Kinesis, Kafka, Spark
- Ability to architect real-time data ingestion, transformation, and streaming pipelines at scale
- Strong understanding of cloud networking, security, governance, and compliance in regulated environments
- Exposure to DevOps practices: CI/CD, containerised workloads (Docker/Kubernetes/EKS), automation, monitoring/observability
- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to translate business requirements into scalable technical architectures
