Quality Assurance (QA) Engineer - Scaling SAAS organisation, Sole QA Engineer

Hybrid: London/Remote in UK
Salary: Up to £60,000

An ambitious, product-driven company building scalable platforms across mobile and web is looking for our first dedicated QA Engineer to join the team and build our quality function from the ground up as they grow.

This is a unique opportunity to shape how QA is done, influence technical decisions, and ensure our software continues to scale reliably.

You will take ownership of establishing our QA processes, from designing a robust testing strategy to implementing automation frameworks and quality metrics. As the first QA in the business, you'll collaborate closely with developers, product managers, and stakeholders to embed quality at every stage of the software development lifecycle.

This role is perfect for someone who enjoys being hands-on, solving problems, and setting up scalable processes that will support a fast-growing product.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design & Build QA Processes: Define and implement the QA strategy across the SDLC, introducing best practices and setting quality benchmarks.
  • Test Automation: Develop, maintain, and scale automated test suites (UI, API, and regression) to support rapid releases.
  • Manual & Exploratory Testing: Execute manual tests where needed, identifying critical issues early in the process.
  • Tooling & Infrastructure: Evaluate and recommend testing tools, frameworks, and CI/CD integrations that best fit our tech stack.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with developers, product managers, and stakeholders to ensure requirements are clear, testable, and met.
  • Continuous Improvement: Monitor quality metrics, identify bottlenecks, and iterate on processes to improve speed and reliability.
  • Documentation: Establish and maintain QA standards, guidelines, and knowledge sharing for the wider team.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a QA Engineer, QA Lead, or similar role - ideally as the first QA or within a growing start-up.
  • Strong understanding of QA methodologies, tools, and processes.
  • Hands-on experience with test automation frameworks (e.g., Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, Appium).
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and integrating automated tests into deployment workflows.
  • Ability to create and execute comprehensive test strategies for complex systems.
  • Experience with performance, load, or security testing.
  • Familiarity with API testing tools (e.g., Postman, REST Assured).
  • Experience scaling QA processes in high-growth environments.
  • Excellent communication skills, proactive mindset, and ability to work autonomously.
