About the Company:
Our client is a dynamic gaming company based in Berlin, dedicated to creating immersive, high-quality gaming experiences for players around the world. As they expand, they are seeking a Senior/Lead Database Engineer to take ownership of their database systems, working closely with the Head of Engineering.

Role Overview:
The Senior/Lead System Engineer will be responsible for designing, managing, and optimizing database systems to support the company's gaming platforms. In this newly created role, you will handle all database-related tasks, allowing the Head of Engineering to focus on broader responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Architect and maintain scalable database systems to meet the demands of high-traffic gaming environments
  • Take over database responsibilities from the Head of Engineering, assuming full ownership
  • Optimize database performance with techniques such as indexing, caching, and query optimization
  • Implement data security measures, backup strategies, and disaster recovery plans
  • Collaborate with game developers and engineers to ensure seamless integration of databases with gaming platforms

Required Skills & Experience:

  • 5 years of experience as a Database Engineer, preferably in the gaming or high-transaction environments
  • Expertise in relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and familiarity with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Redis)
  • Strong knowledge of SQL and experience with performance tuning, query optimization, and schema design
  • Experience with cloud-based databases (AWS RDS, Google Cloud SQL, etc.)
  • Proficient in database security, data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR), and large-scale data management

Nice to Have:

  • Experience in the gaming industry, handling data for multiplayer, real-time, or high-traffic games
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices, automation tools, and CI/CD pipelines
  • Knowledge of game analytics and experience working with large gaming datasets
  • Experience with microservices architecture and data integration in gaming platforms
  • Passion for gaming and understanding of how data drives player experiences and game performance
