Senior Data/Software Engineer - Insights

- Remote/Cardiff- 2 days a week- up to £75k Bonus and Benefits (open to negotiation on salary)

Our client a revolutionary tech brand that were awarded one of the UK's best workplace in 2022 are looking to grow out their engineering function in South Wales.

We are in search of a talented data/software engineer to join our clientsInsights team. For nearly a decade, they have been delivering intelligent insights into the insurance industry. The role of data in transforming the insurance sector cannot be overstated. It has empowered the industry to gain deeper insights into its customers, offer highly personalized products, and confidently set precise pricing.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Crafting, designing, and reviewing modern, scalable data pipelines using the Azure/Databricks stack.
  • Ensuring the accuracy and timely availability of data products.
  • Optimizing storage, processes, and pipelines.
  • Monitoring and maintaining existing processes, with a keen eye for improvement opportunities.
  • Preparing and presenting demos, creating user stories, defining requirements, and acceptance criteria using Agile tools and techniques.
  • Collaborating with product owners and stakeholders to gather and translate requirements into technical specifications. Providing regular progress updates and highlighting pertinent risks or opportunities.
  • Staying informed about emerging trends and technologies in data engineering.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Proficiency in SQL and Python programming.
  • Extensive experience in designing, implementing, and maintaining robust data pipelines and transformation processes.
  • Familiarity with cloud environments, preferably Azure.
  • Knowledge of event-driven architectures (e.g., Event Hubs, Kafka).
  • Demonstrable ability to expose data from systems (e.g., through APIs), connect data from multiple sources, and deliver streaming services.
  • Experience with modern software development tools and practices (Agile methodologies, GitHub, CI/CD & DevOps tools, infrastructure as code, metrics/monitoring, etc.).
  • Strong communication skills for conveying technical requirements to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • A passion for continuous learning, skill-building, and knowledge sharing, both internally and externally.

Nice to Have:

  • Familiarity with Data Factory or equivalent technology.
  • Some exposure to C# would be a plus (full application development not required).
  • Experience with big data technologies such as PySpark, Databricks, Delta Lake, or BigQuery.

This client runs a hybrid working arrangement, 2 days per week in their office in Cardiff.
