25 years of Java

This year marks a quarter of a century since Java was released. It was first developed at Sun Microsystems by computer scientist James Gosling - by accident! It was released in 1996 and has since become one of the world's leading programming languages.

According to ITJobsWatch, one in every four current software engineering roles are looking for candidates with experience in Java. Demand is mirrored across permanent and contract opportunities, and the only language currently in greater demand is JavaScript.
